I’m Philip Nance, an independent musician, educator, and the founder of Ascending Artists.
After years of writing and releasing music, playing shows, booking venues, building an artist brand, marketing releases, and navigating the business side of the music industry firsthand, I created Ascending Artists to help other independent musicians take the next step in their careers.
Alongside my career in music, I’ve spent the past six years as an educator. That experience has played a major role in the development of Ascending Artists: taking what I’ve learned through years of firsthand experience in music and turning it into structured, practical programs that artists can actually understand and apply to their own careers.
Like most independent artists, much of what I’ve learned about the music business has come through experience: sending the emails, building relationships, trying different strategies, making mistakes, and figuring out what works. That combination of music experience and teaching experience is at the heart of Ascending Artists.
My approach isn’t about giving every artist the same blueprint. It’s about understanding where you are now, where you want to go, and building a strategy that makes sense for your music, your goals, and your career.

Both. Every program is one-on-one and built around your specific project, whether that is a solo act, a duo, or a full band. If you are in a band, one member can attend sessions or the whole group can join.
It is one-on-one coaching built on a structured curriculum. You work through real modules with clear topics, but every session is live, personal, and applied directly to your music and your goals, not pre-recorded videos.
No. The programs meet you where you are. Some artists arrive with releases and shows behind them; others are just getting started. The application asks about your current stage so the work fits your season.
Plan for your weekly 60-minute coaching session plus a couple of hours for assignments. The work is practical: writing your bio, building your venue list, planning content. The time you put in goes directly into your career.
Yes. Investment and payment options are discussed personally after you apply, so you can choose the arrangement that works for your situation.
You leave with a personalized 90-day action plan, your completed workbook, and the systems you built during the program. Many graduates continue inside the Networking Group to keep the momentum going, and select artists are invited to apply for the Entertainment Group.
Yes. Community memberships are month-to-month and you can cancel anytime. No contracts, no cancellation fees.
